This is the first in a series of posts that will guide brands on best practices to utilize Foursquare to reach and influence consumers on a targeted location basis.

FOURSQUARE BRAND PAGE OVERVIEW

Brand pages can now be created online. Click on this link to get started. By default, when you create a 4sq brand page, you must create the brand page using your brand’s Twitter account login credentials.

** If your brand does not have a Twitter account, you will need to create a Twitter account for your brand before you create a Foursquare brand page.

BANNER IMAGE – This is the horizontal banner image that will appear at the top of your brand page.

Size Requirements:This image must be (no exceptions) 860×130 pixels – GIF, JPG or PNG under 250KB

The brand icon will be the first thing that Foursquare users see when your brand is featured in Foursquare’s Page gallery, or when they view a Tip from your brand on their mobile device.

BRAND ICON – this is the image that will appear in two places: On the Foursquare brand page gallery and next to each Tip your brand creates and appears on ever user’s mobile phone who checks in at each venue where your brand leaves a Tip. This image should be your logo.

Size Requirements: A square image, 100 pixels by 100 pixels under 100kb

These two images quickly deliver your brand’s image and attracts users to view the Tips on their mobile phones and to follow your brand page online. The more Foursquare users who follow your brand online, the more presence you will have throughout the Foursquare ecosystem.

TIPS ON CREATING YOUR FOURSQUARE BRAND PAGE

DESIGN THE BANNER AND PICTURE IMAGE TO COMMUNICATE YOUR BRAND AND THE TONE OF ITS FOURSQUARE TIPS & LISTS

Design an engaging banner image that displays your brand’s logo and a graphic or text description of why a Foursquare user should follow your brand.

Your brand’s “picture image” should be your brand’s logo and will appear in two places, next to each Tip your brand creates appearing on every user’s mobile phone who views the Tip and on the Foursquare brand page gallery, (https://foursquare.com/pages ).

*Design tip – Foursquare users are used to seeing the “Foursquare” font style and graphic treatment. When you use text or any graphics that are not your brand’s logo on the banner image, consider giving these graphics and fonts the same style treatment.

USE DESCRIPTIVE COPY FOR THE SIDEBAR TITLE AND PAGE DESCRIPTION

The Sidebar Title and Page Description is the second half of the brand page that Foursquare users view. Use the Page Description to communicate the value that your brand will give to these Foursquare users when they follow your brand page and view your brand’s Tips and Lists.

The Sidebar Title and Descriptive Copy live in the right hand column of the brand page, just below the banner image.

Sidebar Title (100 characters or less) – Use this to summarize a call to action that your want foursquare users to do.

Page Description (1,000 characters or less) – Describe the benefits that your brand will give to 4sq users who follow your brand page. This description should cover all of the 5 W’s; who, what, when, where, and why.

LINKING TWITTER AND FACEBOOK

FOURSQUARE GIVES YOU THE ABILITY TO LINK IN YOUR BRAND’S TWITTER AND FACEBOOK PAGES

WHY SHARE WITH OTHER NETWORKS?
Your Foursquare brand page is now part of your brand’s social media ecosystem.

Utilizing this ecosystem with the addition of Foursquare will symbiotically grow fans of your brand to increase brand awareness throughout all three outlets, Foursquare, Facebook, and Twitter.

By linking your Facebook Page and Twitter account, these links will show up on your 4sq brand page for users to view and click through to visit and follow your Facebook Page and Twitter account.

TWITTER
As mentioned above, by default when you create a 4sq brand page, you must create the brand page using your brand’s Twitter account login credentials.

** If your brand does not have a Twitter account, you will need to create a Twitter account for your brand before you create a Foursquare brand page.

FACEBOOK
After creating the brand page with your Twitter login, go to the settings of your brand page, and connect your Facebook brand page to the account.

By linking your Facebook Page and Twitter account, these links will show up on your Foursquare brand page for users to view and click through to visit and follow your Facebook Page and Twitter account.

Finally, select the option to pass through any of your brand’s Foursquare Check-Ins into your brand’s Facebook Page and Twitter account to share these experiences with your brand’s fans and followers on Facebook and Twitter.

Note: only Check-Ins from your brand will appear on the Facebook Page and Twitter account, not your personal Check-Ins.

Following this guide will start your brand off right to properly reach its target audience of consumers.
